Bio

I am an Assistant Professor in Statistics and Data Science at the University of Western Ontario. I am also the vice director of Western Data Science Solutions for statistical consulting services and workshops and the interim director of the Master of Data Analytics professional program. Before joining Western, I was a postdoctoral fellow at the Shah Lab for Computational Cancer Biology at the BC Cancer Agency Research Centre. I completed my PhD in Statistics at the University of British Columbia (UBC). I am originally from Brazil, where I received my Master’s and Bachelor’s Degrees in Statistics at the University of Campinas

Research Interests

My research program consists of developing new statistical methods to analyze large and complex data structures arising from various areas in the Natural Sciences, Health, and Engineering. I conduct research on techniques involving clustering, hierarchical mixture models, mixed effect models, hidden Markov models, nonparametric regression, semi-parametric models, expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm, and Bayesian variational inference.
